December has been a busy month for Coleshill Cricket Club as we have been making plans for 2017, following the unfortunate collapse of the proposed merger with Amersham Hill C.C.
On 2nd December we held a players’ meeting at which there was lively discussion about the format of the cricket we should be playing next summer. It was clear that our playing strength would increase if our 2nd XI did not have to play the very demanding form of cricket required by the Chilterns League, and that quite a few fathers of our Colts would be prepared to play “friendly” cricket for Coleshill on an occasional basis.
Our Committee then met to formalise arrangements for the 2017 season. Our 1st XI will play in Division 2 of the League, whilst our 2nd XI will play social cricket, with the number of fixtures dependent on player availability.
The Committee also confirmed the following arrangements:
- Winter nets will be held at the Amersham School on Sunday evenings between 7.30 and 9 pm, commencing on Sunday 5th March until Sunday 16th April. These nets not only provide important pre-season practice for our players, but are also an excellent way of introducing new members to the Club, so we shall be delighted to hear of any prospective new players.
- We have booked the Village Hall for the evening of Friday, 17th March. After a short AGM, there will be a Pre-Season Party, open to everyone in the Village and other supporters. As last year, there will be a Sri Lankan meal and we shall run a bar. Further details will be circulated in due course, but please book the date.
In 2016, the Cricket Club made a small loss, but our focus in 2017 will be to raise funds to buy a new roller. Our existing roller has given us sterling service over many years, but has now reached the end of its working life.
After the uncertainties of recent months, we can now look forward to a successful 2017 season. We thank all our friends in Coleshill and beyond for their continued interest and support, and wish you all a very happy New Year.
